Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade review: How to upgrade
There are two ways to get Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, and which one you use will depend on whether you bought the game on PS4. At this juncture, it’s also worth distinguishing between Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Episode Intermission. (Square Enix has a thing for giving games very confusing names.)
Final Fantasy VII Remake was a brilliant reimagining of the groundbreaking PlayStation game’s first major story arc. It had its share of flaws, like the slightly padded mission structure, wonky aerial combat, and odd texture issues. Still, it was a fantastic console release that featured an impressive attention to detail, a lengthy story campaign, and remixed Hard mode mechanics. Now available as a PC game via the Epic Games Store, the $69.99 Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade delivers the expected action-RPG goodness, plus the console’s DLC add-on content. It’s a great package, though a few nagging issues remain.

Setting Final Fantasy VII Remake
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set in Midgar, a futuristic cyberpunk metropolis. The city is powered by 8 mako reactors and consists of an upper and lower level. The upper levels are supported by a plate system that blocks out the sun for the lower levels. This area is home to the wealthy elite of Midgar as well as Shinra’s employees. The lower levels, populated by the bottom classes of Midgar, live in relative squalor compared to those who reside above. Though they struggle to thrive, they are nonetheless a burgeoning community that works together in order to prosper.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a rerelease of Final Fantasy VII Remake adapted exclusively for the PlayStation 5 home console. Revealed during a Sony State of Play livestream in early 2021, Intergrade was released June 10 of the same year in order to bridge the technical gap between the preceding PlayStation 4 and the newly released PS5. As such, the game features upscaled graphics and other optimizations as well as new missions on top of quality-of-life improvements since the original release. Current owners of the PS4 original can in effect crossgrade and transfer existing progress data upon obtaining the new release, which includes access to a new downloadable episode featuring Yuffie Kisaragi called Episode INTERmission.
